How to Use

Export the statement from online banking where possible, rather than photographing a printout.

2. Upload the file, or a batch of them, and choose the export format. 3. Keep the columns you plan to check against, especially the printed running or closing balance. 4. Compare the last exported row against the printed total before anything downstream uses the data.

Tips

Do not sort or tidy the export before verifying it. The check is only meaningful on the file as produced.
If the total does not match, find the difference first. Every aggregate below it inherits the error.
Frequent causes of a mismatch: duplicated rows at page boundaries, a description split across two rows, a currency conversion read from the wrong column, and fees listed outside the transaction table.
Record which statements needed manual entry. That list tells you which sources are worth re-exporting later.
